FINAL ASSIGNMENT M1

1.    Write a personal letter to your good friend while you were in elementary school that you haven’t met for many years. Tell him/her about your life now.

Dear My Best Friend, Beni.

It’s the happiest day when I found you on Facebook. It’s really surprising me. Hopefully, this letter finds you in the peak of success and in a good health. I am very fantastic here. Benin, through the years, we've grown up, changed in every way possible, and had to explore our all our mind to rememorize our amazing life journey. Our friends came and went, but you didn't. Since day one, we directly clicked. I was so excited when you picked me up to go to school together, weekend sleepovers, and playing Nintendo and marble in the backyard.

Since you moved to Jakarta, we lost contact. I have not seen you again in years. However, luck with the presence on Facebook, really helped me in finding your whereabouts. Benin, I have a happy little family at this time, I married someone from Jayayoka village which I never expected before. My marriage is only four years old, and I have been blessed with a very funny and active boy. he is 2 years old. Ben, you know, that I still play playstation and it's very fun to enjoy the tremendous technological progress. I really hope that we will someday be able to play Playstation again together, because you are a tough player.

Ben, I am currently working at the Ar-risalah boarding school in Lubuklinggau as a teacher. I really enjoy the role because of my love of the English language even though I was really almost gave up with the value of English that I got in junior high school. Luckily, Mom came and supported me to solve the problem. Then I majored in English education at university.

Ben, nothing exciting right now is more than knowing you, and it will always be a wonderful thing to hear that you will soon be visiting your hometown. I'm really looking forward to it.

Ben, I must go to bed now because tomorrow morning I have to get up early to work.

2.    Create a school announcement about the activities for celebrating Independence Day.

ANNOUNCEMENT

To : All students, staff, and teachers of SMA Ar-Risalah Lubuklinggau

To commemorate the 73^rd Indonesia Independence Day, we are going to hold the flag ceremony which will be followed by several contests to celebrate it. The details would be as follows:

            Day/Date       : Friday / 17th August 2018

            Time                : at 7 am - 4 pm

            Place               : The school yard

            Events             :

1. Flag Ceremony

            This event will start at 7 am in the school yard. The ceremony officer is all teachers and staff, and the flag raiser is the member of school Paskibraka. Due to this event, all students have to wear an white gray uniform with hat and tie. The students have to march in the school yard 10 minutes before the flag ceremony starts.

2. Traditional Games

            There are 5 games as follows Sack Racer, Marble Racer, Nail in Bottle, Eating Kerupuk, and Tug of War. This event will be held after flag ceremony. Each class has to register for each game. Please contact Mr. Dani (Your English Teacher).

3. Independence Day Poem Competition, Caricature & Drama Competition.

            The theme of these competitions is taking care of independence. This event will be held at 2 pm in the school hall. Please contact Ms. Prapti (Your Bahasa Indonesia Teacher) for information and registration.

3.    Compare between Analytical Expositions Texts with other Texts.

There are so many things that we are able to compare between analytical expositions with other texts. Due to this module 1 only discusses four text, such as Personal Letter, Announcement, Analytical and Hortatory, I am going to compare among them only.

As we know, Analytical Text is a text that has the social function is to persuade the readers or listeners that something is the case by presenting the thesis and the arguments to support the idea in the thesis. In fact, it has similarity with hortatory, hortatory social function is to persuade the readers or listeners that something should or should not be the case, but in the last paragraph analytical states the conclusion of the entire the text without giving a statement of what ought or ought not to happen like what in hortatory does. They both use present simple in the significant Lexicogrammatical Features and focus on human and non human participants.

If we compare the two texts above with personal letter and announcement, I think they are so different. The personal letter social function is to build and maintain interpersonal relation with family, relatives, and friends. It is about personal, not public. As we know analytical and hortatory always discuss about the phenomena happens in the society such science, society, etc. While the announcement is just to inform the readers about the particular agenda or activities which its content is not correlated with science writing activities.

I think that’s all the comparison between analytical with other texts. Each text has its own function and way to arrange it.

  

4.    Write a Hortatory Text in at least 300 words. Choose one of the topics below:

CORRUPTION IS DANGEROUS FOR THE DEVELOPMENT

Corruption is a phenomenon that possesses many things. This can be seen from various factors such as economic, political, administrative, social and cultural, both domestic and international. Corruption Behavior is not a form of innate behavior but a behavior resulting from the process of interaction, opportunity, power and disturbance in a socio-political system that is unable to protect the system from corrupt behavior. This of course provides space for individuals, groups, organizations and communities that fill civil society, the state, the public sector and the private sector to carry out these actions. Corruption is very dangerous in many aspects which causes some problems in the process of improving human life worthy of humanity

Corruption by individuals and groups will make public trust in the government smaller. With increasingly small beliefs, it is not very effective for the government to cooperate with the community in building a developed nation. The community will be increasingly apathetic about the government's performance which will basically make the government difficult in implementing its policies in the middle of society.

In running the government, companies, or related to it, corrupt practices of course remove the efficiency of financing in implementing a policy. The budget that should be useful for other policies can not be done because of corruption. The quality of a policy will also be influenced by the behavior of corruption so that it makes material progress difficult to obtain.

Corruption behavior in the element of power holders will also have an impact on economic development. With the proliferation of corrupt practices, it will be more difficult to attract investment. Capital holders' trust will be difficult to obtain due to a high corruption index factor somewhere. The absence of investment for developing countries will affect prosperity for the people because the government should not be able to build the economy independently and require the shareholders to open economic opportunities in various aspects with investment.

With a variety of things that can happen due to corrupt behavior, we should be aware that corruption will have an adverse impact on the progress of a nation. The community itself will be the overall victim. Therefore, I recommend that corruption cases should be handled very well by imposing penalties that have a deterrent effect on the perpetrators, such as making the perpetrators of corruption poor and punished according to the level of corruption that he did.
